A Flash From The Past, A Stab From The Present
by Von Stephens

He lays awake at night,
His thoughts are filled with images of her.
He can see her hair blow with the breeze as she's riding shotgun in his car.
He can smell her perfume and feel her eyes
Glowing, shining in his direction.
He can hear her beautiful voice proclaim
That she's never been happier.

He changes perspective almost instantly,
Thinking of who he sees sitting next to him,
And re-realizes a truth that he constantly tries to ignore.

He's not the one she's sitting next to anymore
