The Light by J Ogden

As the light split the trees or the trees broke the light into illuminated shards

He ran and jumped in between dark and light

As I watched I envied desperately his imagination

How I’d love to be able to once again feel the joy of childhood games

What fun we’d have together he and I

That is not my place anymore, it can never be again

Because he needs me to watch

To watch for his falls and his scratches

To guard him and make him feel safe

This too is a special feeling, equally as warm

The joy of responsibility
